Dr. Hadas-Rebecca Youman

Born 11. of May 1960 in Austria I came to the USA on an Art scholarship and was able to attend the Herron's school of Art in Indianapolis for one semester. I participated in a Jewelry Art competition and won the Ayer's Arts award for the first pice of Jewelry I ever created. Moving to California I enrolled in the Arts program of Moorpark College and took advantage of the possibility to learn print making. There is a saying in Judaism :" You plan and God laughs". Needles to say my Plans to continue to study Art fell short. However not my love for Art nor my desire to Create From an early age I knew nothing gives me as much pleasure than creating Art. Art is an obsession with life. All my personal experience and travels got translated into Art. Everything from the food I ate, Epmusic I heard, interpersonal experience, cities, landscapes and other Artists continuously influenced and still influence my work. My Art is always a mirror of that, wether I explored the Bronx in NYC or Jerusalem in Israel, Santorini, the Music of Leonard Cohen.....I had to create Art. My styles and media changed depending on my living space, money I had, tools that were at hand. A lot of times my Art is confined to a much smaller space on canvas, exploding out of the given frame. I hope that one day I will have the space and money to create on a scale | desire. It would make an enormous difference as well. Lately I created a number of small pen and ink pieces. Infinite possibilities reduced to lines and minimal color. The bare essentials it seems on the other hand a vast possibility of the spectator to go on a journey. A much more delicate journey than my bold paintings. My intention is the same to bring joy and to celebrate life.

My drawings are small and intimate in their original size. This requires the beholder to take a closer look and let himself be drawn into the Art. Delicate intricate lines , elegant, purposeful and dynamic , do not allow for mistakes. A line is unforgiving. What looks light and effortless is the result of yearlong practice.
